February Newsletter

Math:

We have spent the month of February learning so many new things! We recently incorporated a "Class Store" to enhance our coin counting skills and abilities. Throughout the week, students accumulate coins for various tasks and on Fridays are able to visit the store to purchase the item(s) of their choice; they must count out exact change, or give exact change, and the process has been so much fun! Additionally, we have spent the month studying fractions, plotting them on a number line, adding and subtracting fractions, and creating pizza fractions.

Reading & Writing Workshops

Our class has recently had the pleasure of working with literacy specialist, Langhorne Preston to enhance phonemic awareness in one-on-one sessions, as well as applying techniques in small group work. We also spent the month of February creating works of fiction in our writing and learning about the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing, while focusing on pronouns and comma usage in our grammar study.

CORE

Our Viking unit was wrapped up in the beginning of February and we have since focused our attention to Social Studies Fair projects the development of the the 13 Colonies.
